New York is arguably the most famous city in the world. Images of the statue of Liberty holding her torch up to the world to greet you as you enter the harbour, or the soaring skyscrapers of the Manhattan skyline and the Empire State Building are familiar throughout the world. Made famous through news pictures and Hollywood films, staying in a New York hotel to visit this iconic city is the dream of many a tourist. It has also become a place of pilgrimage to many who wish to visit Ground Zero and stand in silent remembrance.
As befits one of the busiest cities in the world, New York is really easy to get to.It has three major airports. The two international airports are John F. Kennedy airport and Newark Liberty Airport, and for flights to anywhere in the USA itself there is La Guardia airport. New York is a hub of international travel as New York is a notoriously busy town, getting to your New York hotel may take a little time is you get caught up in the rush hour. New York’s subway is famous and efficient, but much the easiest way to travel is by the renowned yellow taxi cabs. The drivers know their way to almost anywhere, so you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Once you have settled into your New York hotel, you will want to see the sights. An interesting trip is the famous Staten Island ferry. This leaves the tip of Manhattan at Battery Park and gives you a brilliant view of the Statue of Liberty and the harbour. The ferry runs every fifteen minutes at peak times, and is used regularly by typical New Yorkers on their way to and from work as it is free to ride. You can also walk across Brooklyn Bridge for free which gives you a good view of Manhattan, and then you might want to eat a genuine Brooklyn pizza. There is the ever popular green area in New York which is Central Park. This is a landscaped area designed for recreation. Joggers in Central Park are a common sight down its six miles of pathways, and there are lakes and ponds and even an ice skating rink and in the summer months a swimming pool. You will see skate boarders and bikers as the park is used extensively by the local New Yorkers. You could also visit the zoo and say hello to Gus the polar bear.
No stay at a New York hotel would be complete without a visit to Times Square to look at the massive video and neon displays which surround the square itself. Don’t miss the instantly recognisable Coca Cola sign. While you are here, you could call in at the legendary Hard Rock Cafe for a beer. |
