A laptop is a computing device that is lighter and much smaller than a desktop PC. It can be used to carry around important information. The process of buying a laptop is complex because of the jargon used and computer knowledge required.
Ok so you have decided to buy a used laptop, but have you decided whether you want to purchase a used one or a refurbished one?
As the name suggests there is a difference between the two. A used laptop is a laptop that has been used and is now being sold to you. Even if the laptop has been used for a couple of days after purchase it is still sold as a used laptop.
A refurbished laptop is a laptop that is returned to the manufacturer or store after it is not needed. The store then ships it to the manufacturer who refurbishing it with parts that are needed and it is then sold again as a refurbished laptop. Refurbished laptops are much cheaper than new ones and are just as good.
Here are the three things you need to look out for when purchasing a used laptop.
1. The Condition: As the header suggests the condition of the laptop is very important. It is advisable to buy a laptop that is no older than three years. This is because the hardware in older laptops have a hard time supporting more recent programs and software. One example of this is the RAM. The operating system Windows XP requires 256MB of RAM to run optimally while the version i.e. Windows Vista needs 1GB of RAM. It is advisable to limit your search to used laptops that are no older than 18 months.
2. The Features: You need to consider all the features you are going to need in a laptop when looking for used or refurbished laptops. For example if your main concern is speed then you should avoid laptops older 18 months. You need to keep in mind that laptops function slower than desktop PCs of the same configuration. So if you have a PC at home that has 128MB RAM and runs fine doesn't mean a laptop with the same RAM will run the same. Another thing you need to be careful about is the Hard Disk capacity. It is best to buy one that ranges from 20 to 80GB in storage capacity. Also make sure it has all the accessories that you will need.
3. The Vendor: You have to be careful while buying a used laptop from an acquaintance or a private vendor. Examine the laptop carefully thoroughly before you buy it. Take a knowledgeable friend or colleague along for a second opinion.
When buying a used laptop you need to give importance to factors like brand, size, weight, battery life, connectivity, storage, memory and processing power. Hope these points help you in your search for a used laptop.
Here you can discover the many points to consider when looking at Used Laptops. You can then apply these points against your needs and make the perfect choice from all used laptops.
