E-commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services over the internet.
E-commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services over the internet. This is increasingly popular because of its many advantages over traditional trading of goods and services.

No Barriers

With ecommerce, there are no distance and time barriers. This is because you can access the internet from anywhere in the world, any time of day or night. This offers unparalleled convenience because you do not have to leave the comfort of your home or office to trade. With the large market, it is easy to market niche products which are traditionally very difficult to sell.

Lower Costs and Higher Profit Margins

For customers, e-commerce offers low costs. This is because you get to compare prices from different sites, thereby increasing your chances of getting low prices. The low costs are also because of the fact that online markets and stores are in competition and they have to lower their rates to attract clients/customers and to retain them. For retailers and businesses, there are high profit margins because of the many clients/customers from around the world. Profit margins are also increased by the fact that you do not need many employees and you do not need to do documentation, thereby reducing overhead costs. Online advertising such as Google AdWords is cheaper compared to traditional methods of advertising and some options such as article marketing and link building are free.

Ease of Trade

E-commerce provides ease of trade to the seller and the buyer alike. To sellers, ease of trade is due to the fact that all you need to do to trade is to prepare a shopping cart and to manage your website. To buyers, ease of trade is due to the fact that all you need is a credit card and your details and whatever you buy is delivered to your doorsteps.

Other benefits of e-commerce include the fact that the anonymity of the trader is protected, it is possible to incorporate the built-to-order concept, it is much easier to get customer/client feedback and for clients/customers to communicate with sellers, and inventory levels do not have to be high.
