Wine investment turns out to be one of the most successful and profitable investments on the market. The Fine Wine Investables Index Liv-ex gained 24% last year due to increased interest from Chinese buyers. There is an explanation to it - Russia seems to be out of the wine market for the moment, America has a big demand, but it is not growing very fast and Europe seems flat. China on the other hand is the big story at the moment.

The collectors over there are more interested in brands than vintage wine. The leading wine right now is Château Lafite and it sells twice the value of same quality wines from Château Mouton, Château Latour and Château Margaux. This is because Châteaux Lafite started first in the market for luxury wines – an importer brought some stocks to China over 15 years ago. Also the name “Lafite” is very well translated in Chinese and has been well established with the Chinese government officials – rumour has it that if one wants to seal a deal – Lafite should be served.

The forecast for this year is very appealing because 2010 in Bordeaux happened to be with smaller crops but with actually high quality. The year 2009 was defined to be one of the most excellent vintages and prices were very high, near to double of best vintages before year. The vintages 2000, 2003, and 2005 were also rated very high – this is most likely owing to better vineyard practices and technology. The investor should be able to get money form wine and victorious to catch the next big wave and for China this definitely means the next Lafite on the market.

Château Petrus and Lafleur are Bank of wines and are value investing if there is a chance, since they made superb wines but in little quantities. It trades for about 40-50% of the value of Lafite. 10-15% at the back is Château Latour and after that are Cheval Blanc, Margaux and Haut Brion wines. It is totally different form the Lafite – more masculine and wealthy. Away from business wine form the top most producers during a doing well vintage year, the depositor should look at some other promising options as well. Château Mouton Rothschild from Pauillac and a same Château Lafite is trading very energetically right now.

Mouton Rothschild is as well achieved value in the circles of wine investment Business. Now it is trading at 3.800 pounds per container and this in fact is also high of a cost for that class, but this is Chinese ambitious thing. Château Lafite also has a wine complete as of Carruades de Lafite and supplementary vineyards. On the other hand wines, produce by the top producers are also a very attractive area for investment.
