There are majorly two ways to heat spa massage stones,
First and foremost, it is important to start out with a good quality stone massage kit. If the massage therapist has a good crock pot for heating the stones it will give you multiple variables to adjust the heating element. Also to go with the crock pot the therapist must have a good quality, smooth and hard massage stone set. The better and more refined the rock, the better heat retention and longevity the stone will have for the therapist. The stone must heat at an even pace and once pulled from the crock pot hold its heat consistently with the others it is used with, whether it be the foundation rocks or the massage rocks.

Secondly, be sure that in the pre-massage interview that the client is asked the important questions concerning skin type and heat tolerance. Heat tolerance is important for heating the stones. Each person has a different tolerance to heat. One person may like a semi-warm stone, while another person can withstand intense heat for long periods of time. Heat tolerance for the client is important when it comes to heating the foundation stones that the client will lay on throughout the massage.

If the therapist has nice quality stones, then heat retention is a guarantee. Once the pre-massage interview is over and you begin your massage and heat your stones according to you client’s perceived tolerance, test a foundation stone on the inner part of their forearm. If they are satisfied then the stone crock pot is set at the correct temperature to heat extra foundation stones and massage stones. If the stone is too hot for your client be prepared with a bowl of room temperature water to quickly dip your stones in to test on the client’s inner forearm until the correct tolerance is reached adjust your stone crock pot accordingly.
