The Maserati V8 employs a wet sump oil lubrication system, with an integral oil sump and high performance pump to circulate and pressurize engine oil. This configuration was chosen to significantly reduce engine noise and improve passenger comfort. 82% of the engine’s torque is available from a low 2,500 rpm, delivering exceptional pick up even at higher gears in order to make overtaking safer and the overall driving experience more enjoyable on challenging sections. To satisfy the most strict exhaust gas emission regulations, the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible utilizes a metal matrix catalyst system to achieve the US LEV2 (Low Emission Vehicle) rating without sacrificing performance.

The Maserati GranTurismo Convertible’s exhaust is controlled by integrated pneumatic valves which are closed in normal mode to ensure a comfortable and discrete sound level. When the driver press the Sport button, the car opens the exhaust valves enabling the engine to deliver maximum power with a stunning sound which is even more exciting with the top down. The exhaust valve bypass is controlled in order to be opened only at over 3,000 rpm, allowing the vehicle to have two distinctive driving personalities: discrete and comfortable at low engine speeds, responsive and powerful at high revs with an unforgettable sound.

The Maserati GranTurismo Convertible combines a ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox with the 4.7 L engine. With its response to the accelerator, this combination is compelling for the most demanding drivers while still providing smooth and fluid gear changes for the passengers comfort. The new hydraulic gearbox enhances the performance of the Maserati V8 engine, especially at low and medium revs in order to provide genuinely gear changes typical of a sports car in the Manual Sport mode. The driver can choose from four different driving modes: Auto normal, auto sport, auto ICE and manual. When driving normally, i.e. at low cornering loads, the shifting performance is tuned to maximize comfort. The auto sport mode is instead ideal for challenging roads, whether in the manual mode the driver directly set the gears in sequence using the gear shift lever or the paddle shifters on the steering column.

The transmission layout is finalized with the new 6-speed automatic transmission in the front, integrated with the engine and drive shaft divided into two sections which transmits power to the wheels through a limited-slip differential. Steering responsiveness and precision also contribute to provide driving pleasure, comfort and safety. The electronic power steering system ensures that its action is always calibrated to the vehicle speed, so that there is a stability feeling when driving at high speeds as well as a light and comfortable feel when maneuvering at lower speeds.
