Before we begin on how to check history on the computer lets go back in time and find out what computers are all about. A computer is a machine/device which is designed to carry out arithmetic and logical operations. The first electronic digital computers were developed in the mid 20’s and they were the size of a large room and consumed very much power to operate.
Its basic and important nature was to solve mathematical problems and to store huge amounts of data at the same time, but as time passed by the actual size of computers had decreased and it had become more power full and efficient to carry out commands. And now after such a long time since the birth of this amazing technology, it has improved on a large scale and it is being used in almost every field. There is denying the fact that it has rapidly increased its users and also made things very easy for the human beings to solve. This was just a little information about the history of computers, now coming back on how to check history on the computer. It is quite simple actually and many users have different ways of checking history on the computer and so at one point a person gets confused on how it is being done properly. The simple way to check history without having to download some new and additional programs into your computer. It is being done by the access to the control panel through the ‘my computer’ folder which is been seen on the start menu. After that is done now you have to click on ‘administrative tools’ option. After that there should a link to a program called ‘event viewer’ on which we have double click. The event viewer window will now execute , double clicking on any of the events from any of the categories, applications, security, system, and internet explorer will show an event log. Now we have to check the precise date when the last file was accessed is possible by highlighting the file and checking its properties on the explorer window, this method is unreliable because right clicking on the file is considered by the system as an access to the file. If anyone is using the latest windows like windows XP, there is more reliable way to check computer history which can be done through the auditor. The next is to create a system restore point, now disable file sharing which can be done by clicking the ‘tools’ menu on the shared folders. Click folder options from the tools menu and then click ‘view’. Now press the start button and click on the run file and type in “gpedit.msc” this will open the group policy window. Access the audit policy through computer configuration the ‘windows settings’, the ‘security setting’ then ‘local policies’ and last is ‘audit policy’. Double click on the ‘audit object access’ and check the ‘success’ check box in the properties tab and then click ‘ok’. Go to a folder that you want to keep track , right click on this folder, go to properties, access the security tab and click the ‘advance’ button. An advance security settings will now appear, go to the auditing tab and click ‘add’. Type in the word ‘everyone’ in the box under the ‘ enter the object name to select’ , the click ‘check names’ which checks whether you have entered a valid name or not the click ‘ok’. Now an auditing entry dialog windows should appear the choose the folders you want audited, then click ‘ok’ on all the dialog windows. |
