Although “The Cloud” has been around for a number of years now, many people still remain unsure about what it is and what it does.
What is it?
“Cloud” is in fact an umbrella term which refers to a number of different trends, all of which involve the internet and its ability to simplify the way people and in particular, business organisations, can use computers to extend their capabilities. Therefore “Cloud Computing” is all about putting more of an organisation’s material on the Internet so that there is less to run on their own PC’s or servers.
What can it do?
There are many different reasons why companies would want to make use of the Cloud, with some of the most common being: the desire to decrease the maintenance burden of servers and applications; the ability to scale systems up or down on demand; the advantage of being able to engage in mobile working from practically anywhere; and the ability to substitute unpredictable, substantial IT expenditure with regular, predictable operational expenditure.
Realisation
Naturally, the advent of the Cloud has made many more organisations realise that they no longer need to spend large amounts of money on installing and maintaining composite hardware and applications. Although there are many ways to access Cloud Computing, many organisations choose to employ the services of a reliable Cloud Computing provider.
Cloud Computing providers
A good quality provider can ensure organisations adopt and integrate Cloud technology in a way that will help them to realise the many benefits that it offers. Furthermore, reputable providers are also able to apply the development of reliable software applications and mobile-working solutions to meet the specific needs of individual companies and organisations. In short, Cloud Computing providers can enable organisations and their employees to work in ways that are significantly more versatile, efficient and cost-effective. |
